Obituary of long time Sunny Dunes member Trish

From the Desert Sun:

Patricia Jean Durant, our Mom, Grande (pronounced Grandy), mentor, and friend, was granted her angel wings on June 21, 2021; she was at home in Palm Springs with her life partner of 43 years, Boots Scott, when she passed. Trish was born on August, 6, 1936, in the Bronx in New York, and she was raised in New York City. She later moved to Washington State and made it her home for 38 years, working for the city of Seattle for 22 of those years, before she and Boots finally settled in their home in Palm Springs, California in 2000. Though Trish always remained proud of her Irish roots and preserved her signature New York accent, she became a loyal fan of the Mariners and a “12th Man” for the Seahawks. Trish is survived by her life partner (Boots), her children (Jay Durant and Theresa Durant Baranksa), her grandchildren (Jessica, Bo, Sharaya, Jordan, C.J., and Austin), and her great-grandchildren (Aiden and Jonalee). One of the most beautiful facets of Trish was how she loved; family was never distinguished by step, half, in-laws, or even those removed. Trish just loved and did so unconditionally, and family was just family. She also devoted most of her adult life to loving and supporting strangers who became her friends, and whom she treated like family, through her sponsorship and mentorship in the 12-Step Program for Addiction Recovery. Despite grieving the loss of our extraordinary Mom, Grande, and friend, we will treasure the memories of her contagious laugh, the stories she would tell, the hugs she would give, the thoughtfulness of her calls and messages when she knew we needed it most, and her unwavering faith.

Funeral services are still pending. A Celebration of Life has been tentatively planned in the fall in Palm Springs, and the Mass of the Resurrection will be held for Trish in Seattle at a later date.
