Steering Committee Responsibilities & Requirements

Chairperson; chair monthly steering committee meetings, sign checks, meet with landlord, review and sign contracts, oversee maintenance issues as they arise, oversee special projects, troubleshooting and conflict resolution (1), (4), (5), (6)

Co-Chairperson: training of meeting secretaries, oversee inventory of room keys, chair steering committee in absence of Chairperson, sign checks, troubleshooting and conflict resolution (1), (4), (5), (6)

Secretary: record minutes of monthly steering committee and then load to website and hang in room, pre-stamp envelopes for deposits, update meeting secretaries’ telephone/meeting list, updates to Central Office, (2), (4), (5), (6)

Treasurer: twice weekly create and make deposit during banking hours (with auditor or other executive committee member), prepare monthly report, (1), (4), (5), (6)

Auditor: audit treasurer’s monthly report, twice weekly create and make deposit during banking hours (with treasurer or other executive committee member) (2), (5), (6)

Chips and Literature: keep inventory of all chips and literature, including books and pamphlets. Order, obtain (at the Central Office) and restock literature (2), (5)

Cleaning Coordinator: clean and maintain meeting room, including daily and monthly cleanings (with volunteers), knowledge & posting of CDC guidelines, (3), (5)

General Services Representative: represent Sunny Dunes 5th Tradition AA fellowship at monthly meeting of Area 9 of AA (Area 9 is part or all of Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and LA counties) (1), (5)

General Services Representative Alternate: stand in for GSR when needed (1), (5)

Grapevine: represent Sunny Dunes 5th Tradition AA fellowship with AA Grapevine, our international journal, including obtaining complementary subscriptions for members celebrating 1 year of continuous sobriety (3), (5)

Hospitals and Institutions: 1 chair for men’s and 1 chair for women’s facilities, carry AA’s message to those of us in jails, hospitals and others institutions, get involved with monthly H&I committee meeting (2), (5)

Intergroup Representative: represent Sunny Dunes 5th Tradition AA fellowship at AA of the Desert monthly Intergroup meetings, which oversee the central office (2), (5)

Supplies: weekly shopping trip to Sam’s Club in Rancho Mirage to restock supplies, including coffee, teas, cups, stirrers, creamers, cleaning supplies and etc. (2), (5)

Telephone and Meeting Lists: monitor telephone and meeting lists in room, manage Zoom lists, update each month, and get printed (3), (5), (6)

Webmaster: maintain website, manage Facebook page, collaborate with Zoom Coordinator, maintaining distribution lists, (2), (5), (6)

Maintenance: Change air filters, monitor kitchen area, minor jobs, meet inspectors, oversee facility, light bulbs, interact with property manager as needed, troubleshoot any issues with water cooler, meet repairmen when needed (3), (5)

Zoom Coordinator: Maintenance of Zoom account, create/maintain Zoom codes, passwords, host keys, maintain Zoom calendar, Maintain Zoom phone list, oversee creation of each hybrid meeting, create guidelines of creating Hybrid mtgs (2), (4), (5), (6)

Requirements:

  1. 2 years continuous sobriety        (4) previous experience on steering committee
  2. 1 year continuous sobriety          (5) must attend monthly steering committee mtg.
  3. 6 months continuous sobriety     (6) some computer knowledge necessary
